"Harvest Haystacks" by Stenbäck, 1929

Harvest Haystacks
signed Stenbäck, dated 1929

Bring the warm, unhurried glow of a Nordic fall evening into your home with this early 20th-century oil painting, signed "Stenbäck" and dated 1929. Tall haystacks, each built around a central pole in the traditional way, stand like sentinels at either side of a sunlit field. Between them, a long timber barn, a lone leafy tree and a slanted split-rail fence lead the eye toward the horizon, while small clouds blushed with pink drift across a clear cornflower sky.

The painter's lively, textured brushwork gives the grass a shimmer of ochre, olive and gold, and the slanted rail fence and pole-built stacks are hallmarks of the Scandinavian countryside. Nearly a century old, it's a small, quietly joyful piece that feels like the last golden hour of harvest. Presented in a vintage carved frame of gold and soft cream, with a cream inner liner.
